The Corrales Well Field was designed with natural gas engine-driven well pumps and a small electrical feed from the local utility for ancillary loads. The project included the removal of the gas engine equipment, modification of the HVAC system, upgrade of electrical service, modification of the CO2 system, and installation of a new variable frequency drive (VFD) and 600HP motor. The new motor is powered by an active front-end, harmonic mitigating VFD. The VFD is used for soft-starting and can also be used to optimize efficiency. The existing evaporative cooler used for the engine room was modified to provide cooling for the new VFD.
