The Village of Los Lunas Wastewater Treatment Facility, designed by Molzen Corbin, was awarded the 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards by both the New Mexico Chapter and National Organization of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The facility was one of the first membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment plants in New Mexico – a state-of-the-art technology that consistently produces a high-quality effluent. Molzen Corbin designed the facility so that capacity can be phased from 0.9 to 1.8 MGD. The facility is equipped with a bottom row of MBR cassettes in each basin with each basin (four in total) being deep enough to accommodate an additional upper cassette. All piping and valves needed for the expansion were included within the facility, and, recently, the upper row of cassettes was added with minimal disruption to the plant. The facility was awarded the 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards by both the New Mexico Chapter and National Organization of ACEC.
