A state-of-the-art design was accomplished by the Molzen Corbin team, by carefully placing divider walls to achieve maximum reactor process efficiencies, varying recycle points and quantities using computer modeling, and strategically placing chemical inputs to minimize chemical costs based on reaction kinetics. The challenges faced during the two-year construction period were many, including maintaining operation of the existing plant, sequencing construction on the small plant site, working through demanding harsh winter conditions, and meeting regulatory agency deadlines. The facility was awarded the top 2012 Engineering Excellence Category Award by the ACEC/NM.
