Molzen Corbin designed two segments of US 54 south: Carrizozo to Tularosa and Alamogordo to the Texas state line. As part of these projects, we conducted drainage analysis using the 50-year storm event for runoff calculations and the 100-year storm event to evaluate roadway drainage structures. The total watershed area for both projects was approximately 600 square miles, ranging from the Sierra Blanca mountains to the relatively flat areas near the roadway. Molzen Corbin evaluated 77 major drainage structures (box culverts), 132 minor drainage structures and five bridges, all of which required replacement or upgrade to conform to the new roadway design.
